Destination Spotlight: Marrakech

Marrakech is an intoxicating city known for its souks, spices, snake charmers and hidden palaces. Make sure that you spend some time wandering in the sprawling souks. At these traditional markets you’ll find virtually everything you can think of on sale from traditional Berber carpets and clothes to trinkets and jewellery.

Marrakech is dominated by the towering Atlas Mountains. The majestic, snow-capped peaks loom over the city in the clear blue winter air, an unbroken wall filling the entire southern horizon. In summer, the city roasts under the desert sun, which can push temperatures up to 50°C (134°F) in the shade. But winter or summer, the city has a perpetual party atmosphere. Marrakchis are charming, hospitable, full of humour and intensely proud of their city, which for the most part is one of the most tolerant and liberal in Morocco.

The nearby area around Marrakech offers activities such as hiking and climbing across the valleys and summits of the Atlas Mountains, horse riding, quad biking, mountain biking, 4WD tours, ballooning, paragliding, jet-skiing, playing golf in any of the 10 stunning golf courses in Marrakech, skiing in the Atlas Mountains (70 kilometers) and going to the beach in Agadir/ Essaouira (250 kilometers).
